Mission:
Mission 8 - A Blast from the Past
Location: Bridge
Timeline: 2296/03/14 1530 hours
O'Connor sat on the bridge, her feet dangling and not touching the floor of the bridge. Most crew members had grown used to it, but O'Connor still glared at anyone that might look in her direction and potentially tease her about it. Her frown was doubly furrowed at the moment because she had let pollen overtake her. Never mind that the reaction was natural and unavoidable, the Captain always felt she was above such things.
Problems still plagued her: there was a captive Romulan. The XO and her Chief of Security were still lost on the planet. The avian species below was likely going crazy while the Revelation played out. At least Devin was able to come up with a cure for the ship and Heskin vented the damn pollen in the void of space where it would hopefully not have the same effect on anything in the future.
"Reports," she called out to everyone on the bridge.
Harris manned the Security station while the Department Chief was still on the planet. He looked toward the command pit of the Bridge. "Security reports that with the venting of the pollen and the assistance of medical the crew is returning to their normal dispositions. As for Commander Capac and Lieutenant Jericho we are scanning the planet. Thus far there is no sign of them. We can go down and search for parties in EV suits to prevent infection from the pollen. However, the searches would be slow going in the large suits."
O'Connor growled in her chair. "Not to mention that we have no idea where to look due to the lack of sensors. Even if we do look, there's the issue with God knows how many Romulans being down there." She furrowed her brows hard.
Axel looked up from his console towards Captain O'Connor, he didn't blame her for being frustrated at this situation. "Captain, couldn't we send down another shuttle or even... utilize a drone or two to perhaps enhance the scans for our missing Crew?"
"No," O'Connor growled. "With Romulans down there, they could be shot down. Worse, though, we do not know how effective our vaccine for that damn pollen is once we're down there on the planet. It is much thicker down there than what we had up here. So unless you and the doctors have figured out how to solve the issue of the planet, I can't send anyone down."
"What if we didn't rely on the vaccine, ma'am?" Kailani suggested. "We could wear environmental suits."
She then turned to Zim and asked, "Did you give the remedy to our Romulan friend? How is she doing?"
"Yes Captain. The vaccine has been administered and most likely in an hour or two she will be in a state of being well enough to be spoken to. She was exposed for a lot longer than us and I am told that takes a bit longer to recover from." Zim looked up from his console as he spoke. In truth he looked forward to questioning the Romulan. He had a good number of questions that needed answers.
"They are a little bit bulky." Axel glanced over towards Keilani. "There is a solution that is being worked out." Axel turning his attention to the Captain.
"Tell me," O'Connor demanded greedily.
"Still need to do a little bit more done to it, but, we plan on sending out satellite or satellites with an antihistamine, They also are being altered to move like a drone, to keep them from being shot out of the sky." Axel responded.
O'Connor gave Axel a crooked grin. "Before there is a cure, I want to get our people out of there." She hit the comm and called Prudence. =^=Devin, are you certain that our immunizations will work on the planet if I send out a search mission to rescue our missing XO and Chief of Security? =^=
Kailani blinked, leaning forward. "Captain, the shuttle just blew!"
Hearing this piece of news, Axel shot a glance towards the viewscreen. They were going to have to send out the dispenser satellites very soon.
"Shuttle? The one that we sent down? How can you be certain from an explosion on the planet, Young?" O'Connor demanded.
"I was keeping an eye on them, captain," Kailani said. "The location is an exact match."
Drake dared a look over at Kailani. Given their previous night of passion and the recent innoculations, he did not know how or what he or Kailani really felt.
Kailani had been awkwardly silent so far. She remembered the night well but she couldn't shake the knowledge she had not really been herself. Neither had he, of course. She wasn't sure how to feel about it.
Axel took a look at his console, a beep coming from it. "Captain, it appears from the testing that the doctor and I had done, the antihistamine will provide enough protection, for those going down to the planet. Also the satellites are loaded and ready in the torpedo tubes."
"Launch them," O'Connor ordered. "Though, this may have an undesired side effect. Those Romulans could come out of their stupor, too." She considered her options, and hit the comm. =^= Lieutenant Zim, you, Lieutenant Heskin, and Lieutenant Devin should fly to the planet. Devin and Heskin will have four extra vials of the bird flu cure, so that if our XO and Chief of Security are alive, you can get them out of there and back to themselves ASAP. Got it? =^=
"Yes Captain." Zim replied and made his way to the shuttle bay without another word. The sooner he retrieved their people the sooner this would be over with. The sooner this planet and all that came with it would be behind them.
