Mission:
Mission 9 - Unearthing Life
Location: USS Perseus
Timeline: MD01 - 0900
"Ensign Owen Reeves, Petty Officer Jessica Cuthane please grab your gear and make your way to the Transporter Room. We are approaching our rendezvous with the America." Came the voice of the Peresus' CO, Captain Thomas Rushman.
Owen looked around the room that had been his home for the last two weeks. Though he was already thirty years of age, he'd just graduated the Academy, and the America would be his first posting.
He lifted his carryall to his shoulder, and headed for the Transporter Room, with a mixture of excitement and trepidation.
--------
Jessica swore. She knew this time was coming, so she'd sat down with a book to calm her nerves, only to get carried away in the story.
Throwing her gear haphazardly in her carryall, she managed to get everything together in the few minutes she had left.
She ran down the corridors, adjusting her uniform as she went.
At the doors to the Transporter Room, she took a short breath before entering.
"Good day, Ensign, Chief." She said to Reeves, and Chief Zel, the transporter operator.
"Good day, Petty Officer," Owen said. Then in a whisper, he added. "Your rank pin is upside down."
"Thank you." She replied readjusting it."
USS Perseus Bridge
"Comms, open a channel to the America." Captain Rushman ordered from his command chair.
"Channel open, Captain."
"America here," Amaya replied, glancing over to the captain. She wasn't sure what the call was about, but it could be for O'Connor.
"America, I'm Captain Thomas Rushman of the USS Perseus. We're here to drop off some personnel and supplies." Thomas said.
Amaya smiled. "Excellent, captain. We could definitely use both. Our transporter room will be ready to receive you." She sent a quick message to the ops officer on duty in the transporter room alerting them of the pending arrivals.
"Good, they'll be over momentarily, Perseus, out."
USS Perseus Transporter Room
Chief Zel, receiving an order from the Bridge, operated the Transporter.
Owen and Jessica were enveloped by the transporter beams and rematerialied on the America's transporter pads.
Addressing the Transporter operator on the America, Owen said. "Ensign Owen Reeves, and Petty Officer 1st Class Jessica Cuthane, reporting aboard."
"Welcome aboard," the officer replied. "The captain is waiting for you."
The diminutive redhead in the Captain's uniform arrived at the transporter room. She furrowed her eyebrows wondering why staff was being sent to her on the fly. Worse, the Perseus was likely out here to make certain that the Romulans were exiting promptly from the Avian's planet. It rankled her to no end. Then again, she knew that the Starfleet powers still fought over whether she deserved to be a Captain. "So, why are you two joining us out here? Who did you piss off?"
Owen was going to say that, Command decided the America needed another medical officer and security Noncom, but instead, he went for the truth. "Admiral David Bishop, ma'am, he doesn't like or trust Vulcanoids, thinks we're all potential Romulan spies, when he started to slander my parents, I found it difficult not to knock him on his fat, old arse, but I decided he wasn't worth it."
"Told me that girls shouldn't be in Security, and that belonged in medical as nurses." Cuthane said. "I just visualised him being blown out an airlock, and fighting fruitlessly in space, until his air ran out, Ma'am." She smiled. The thought game me a warm feeling, ma'am."
O'Connor grinned at the two newcomers. It was crooked, but genuine. Considering I started in Security on this very ship, Admiral Bishop could stuff a sock in it. A very moldy and crusty one, at that. Welcome to America, where we are known for pissing off half of the admiralty on a daily basis."
"Sounds like we'll fit right in." Owen said.
"I'll eventually be the judge of that but, well, you're here now. Go check in with your chiefs and get your authorization codes. If our next mission goes as sideways as the first, then you're likely to need them."
"Aye, Ma'am." Owen, and Jessica replied.
O'Connor's crooked smile remained as she said, "Dismissed."
"Aye, Ma'am, thank you, Ma'am." Owen, and Jessica replied. Before leaving for their assigned quarters.
