Writing a Report

Posted on Sat Apr 26th, 2025 @ 4:42pm by Captain Kelly O'Connor & Petty Officer, 1st Class Goldie Brown

985 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: Mission 8 - A Blast from the Past
Location: Captain's Meeting Room
Timeline: 2296/03/13 1600 hours

O'Connor had to wonder why Goldie was acting strange. It was almost as if Goldie suspected that there was something wrong with her. But what would be wrong with herself? She felt fine - better than fine, really. She just needed to find a way to lure Zim to her quarters and then they'd both be better than fine. She wondered if the Capellan could handle her. Few could.

When they got to the meeting room, O'Connor said, her Irish accent starting to become more obvious. "I guess that we should get this report out of the way, lass? Are you ready?"

Goldie adjusted the electronic clipboard and stylus. "Y-yes, ma'am." Something about the dust or pollen or whatever the away team brought back with them made her nose itch. It had to be pollen, then. Ugh. She almost wondered if the captain was allergic, and if the pollen was some sort of drug. As soon as she processed the captain's report, she'd go back to her quarters, shower, and send her clothes to the laundry. Maybe she could just stay in her room until the ship could be thoroughly cleaned.

"Alrighty, let us see, then?" O'Connor replied with her Irish accent staying pronounced. She found a chair and then lounged on it lazily. "So, you see, we went down to the planet and met with the Avians. They did not give us the name of their species but given that we were dealing with a Romulan who was already there, I did not consider that particularly important. We were met by Captain Kaktaw who was of course rescued on our ship and he took us to a room where we met with the leader named Archimedes...."

Goldie was dutifully writing down every word. Then she paused. "Captain Kaktaw, ma'am? And Archimedes is one of the bird-like aliens?"

"Yes, yes. Captain Kaktaw. He was on the warp ship that we saved. We had him on board for a wee bit. Don't you remember that, Goldie? And yes, yes, Achimedes seems to be the leader of the avian species down there."

"Why are the Romulans on the planet?" The captain was far too casual about all of this and it made Goldie concerned.

"I dunna know the answer to that question yet," O'Connor answered. "The Avians seemed to say that the Romulans came to them first, are their friends, and have helped them develop this technology. Hopefully we will find out more." She laughed slightly manically. "The Romulan that altered Pendragon's memories and faced off against us last time.... Well, she was on the planet, but now, thanks to Zim and I, she's in the brig."

Goldie took more notes. She'd write it up after and send it to the captain for her signature. "Shall I say that there are other Romulans on the planet? And did you have a chance to talk to Archimedes, ma'am? Is there another visit planned?" She felt like she had to ask questions because the captain seemed...distracted.

"I believe that there are other Romulans on the planet, though I only saw the one in the brig. The Avians kept referring to Romulans, so that would indicate more than one, right?" she asked as if it was obvious. "As to going back, we still need to discover what happened to our XO and Chief Security Officer, so, yes, we plan on going back. Also, the Avians told us that they would see us after the Revelation was completed, whatever that is."

"The revelation? That sounds odd. Still, I'll put it in the report." Goldie had a lot more questions, but she would keep them to what she thought was pertinent to the report. The captain usually gave her a straightforward, beginning-to-end report. This was definitely out of character. But she'd already asked and been told there was nothing wrong. So now, she would get the rest of the report and take along, hot shower. Her arms were beginning to itch. She write what the O'Connor said, then looked up, waiting for the rest of the report.

"Yes, it is a bit odd," O'Connor said casually. "However, Archimedes said it was a time when their true selves were revealed. They said it started when the pollen did and ended when the pollen did. Whatever happened in between was for the Gods to decide, or some nonsense like that. But they absolutely refused to talk until the Revelation was completed. So, we're stuck until the pollen is done, I dare say."

Goldie looked down at the floor. "This pollen? The stuff you brought on board?" She was getting a bad feeling about this.

"Yes, this stuff. Gets everywhere," O'Connor replied nonchalantly. "Was almost a blizzard of this down there."

"A blizzard of pollen on the planet? And they call this the Revelation? Is it dangerous?" Goldie asked. She wanted to run back to her quarters and stay inside until everything was normal again. The captain was NEVER blasé about anything. Should she talk to the doctor?

"Not that I could tell," O'Connor answered. "Miss Ross was analyzing it. You could ask her if she found anything yet."

"I'll do that after I finish this report." And from the safety of her quarters. Her back itched now, and she didn't want to deal with people.

"Alrighty, then!" she replied flippantly. "Well, then, if the report is complete, I suppose that I should get myself back on the bridge, righty-o?"

"Yes, ma'am. I'll be there shortly so you can sign the report, then I'll file it for you." One last task, Goldie assured herself. Then, she'd get off the bridge and...somewhere. Maybe she'd go visit the laundress? At least there it should be clean and pollen-free.

And as soon as my shift is done, I can call Zim over to my quarters.... O'Connor mused to herself. "Thank you, Goldie."
