Defining Quotes and/or Character Beliefs

Personal History Iona is the second youngest of four born to Jaxon and Karloa. She has an older brother, an older sister, and a younger sister. She was raised on Trill and was always an adventurous child, she was often found testing her body’s limits by running as fast as possible, jumping as far as possible, or seeing just how high she could climb without supports. Her parents weren’t pleased with this behaviour and pressured her into doing more educational pastimes.

While she was generally quick to learn new things, she often found it boring. Eventually, her parents managed to come up with a system where if Iona did well in school, she would get to go on adventures or trips to explore somewhere new. This started a new spark of interest for Iona to press herself to be the the best she could be. She was never one that required being the top of anything, always just looking for her own personal best.

In school, she excelled in sciences, taking every course she could take. She branched out into maths and engineering studies, but medical and sciences were always where her heart directed her. When she turned 14, she began taking extra courses in order to finish primary schooling early. Her goal was to earn as many degrees as she could before leaving Trill for new adventures. By the time she was 20, she had earned a botany degree. Then she decided to go through medical school. After getting primary schooling for her Doctor of Medicine degree, she decided to branch into two subspecialties.

Before she branched out, however, a friend convinced her to join Starfleet with her. During her four years at the academy, Iona decided to focus herself on surgery, becoming a general surgeon. She did well and graduated with honours from the academy. Iona’s first assignment was as a Medical Officer with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade aboard the USS Gideon.

This is what she’d been waiting for. What better adventure was there than being on a starship exploring the unknown? Iona was content with her position, thoroughly enjoying being part of the ‘family’ aboard the Gideon. About a year into her time on the Gideon, the chief medical officer decided to retire to raise her family, now having two young children. The assistant chief medical officer stepped up and chose Iona to be his new assistant.

She loved her job and the crew she was working with, but being content was never Iona’s plan. She wanted to be thrilled with her job, with her life. So, she began seeking out new positions, hoping to find something she would thoroughly enjoy. Thus it became that she was offered the chief medical officer position aboard the USS America and a promotion to Lieutenant. Excited at the possibilities this would open up for her, Iona readily accepted the position and was transferred.
