Mission:
Mission 9 - Unearthing Life
Location: Bridge
Timeline: MD 01 - 0800
O'Connor was bored. Once again they were back on their survey mission around the area where Romulans were ont expected to be on the far end of the Neutral Zone. At least with the Avians there was action. She got to smack around the Romulans. That was fun! Even her near tryst with Zim was interesting. She smiled crookedly at those memories.
But now, there was a settled boredom. She was a woman of action and the routine of having nothing happen except looking was not her style. If she wanted to be a scientist, perhaps that would be fascinating. But this.... The staring into the black and not actually doing anything was going to be the death of her.
She heard a beep and she leaned forward in her chair hopefully.
"It's a type-F star, captain," Kailani said. "We've got nine planets. Three inner planets. Two class-B worlds with constant volcanoes, a class-N world not that different from Venus. We have some spectacular outer planets, captain," Kailani continued. "Two frozen class-C planets, a gas giant to make Jupiter blush, an especially thick asteroid belt, a class-T superjovian out past that, and then another slightly more modest gas giant passed that. In the habitable zone...Let me angle a bit." Kailani moved her controls in frustration.
O'Connor looked around and asked hopefully, "Is there anything else around?"
"Right smack in the middle of the habitable zone, we have a class M," Kailani added.
Dissatisfied, O'Connor asked, "Science, what can you tell me about this system? Anything habitable?"
Looking up from the console where he had been taking readings. "It is a Class M planet, much like Earth in the forested region. Looks to be like a desert region. There are Glaciers at the North and South poles. Hmmn even some tropical and subtropical areas, with some islands."
"Comms are quiet," Maya reported. She knew it wasn't what the captain wanted, but at least there were no Romulans.
"So, no Romulans," O'Connor replied with obvious disappointment in her voice. "Just normal background noise?" she asked hoping that anything might be interesting.
"None off the Avian planet," Maya replied. "There are plenty of them there." She still wasn't happy about that. Especially after they went looking for Cyrus and her.
"They'll be leaving soon enough. After all, that's the wrong side of the Neutral Zone for them, and we solved the Avian's issues," O'Connor responded with a knowing grin.
In the meantime, O'Connor ordered, "Well, I don't see a record of this system being explored. I suppose that we should send an away team to check out that class M planet. "Capac, take someone from security and medical down to the planet and check it out. If the place is as quiet as Heskin said it is, then perhaps we can give the crew some shoreleave."
"Aye, ma'am," Amaya said. "I'll get right on it." She wasn't sure she was ready to go back to another planet after crashing on the last one, but wasn't there a saying about getting back on a horse?
O'Connor gave Amaya a small nod and in what might be encouraging or sarcasm, the Captain told her XO. "At least you will not be crashing a shuttle this time. Standard beam out."
"I doubt there are any Romulans to shoot us down this time," Amaya countered. She smiled back at the captain. "Would you like someone from science on the team as well?"
"Yes." O'Connor appreciated the XO turning around with her own quip. That said, O'Connor wished she was the one who had all of the action. Capac had too much fun and likely had a great deal of fun with her Chief Security Officer, much to the Captain's chagrin.
"Captain, sorry to interrupt there is also an area much like the plains upon Earth during the migration phase in the pioneering years. " Axel rather intrigued by this discovery.
He hoped that he would be able to go down on the away team but that all depended on the Captain.
"Then start there," O'Connor ordered. "Sounds like Heskin is yours Commander."
"Perfect. Shuttle bay in fifteen minutes," Amaya said. Then she turned to Cyrus "Cyrus, you're with me." She'd let the doctor know on her way out.
When the turbolift doors opened, Capac stepped back to let the laundress exit, then went down to sickbay."
Stallworth had the Sick Bay back to normal when she was informed the the Away Mission.
A quick "Shore enough." and she had a new task to prep for.
Prunella marched over to the captain's chair. "Captain O'Connor, I can't get into your quarters to deliver your laundry. Please tell the computer to let me in or I'll deliver them to the bridge and let you figure out where to put them."
Axel rose from his seat, and paused watching as the Laundress arrived, marching over to where the Captain was seated. He'd spoken to the Laundress earlier, And the only thing he could think was, well, she seemed rather-How could he actually describe her. A force of nature maybe?
When Axel went to take his laundry in, he was polite and said thank you when his laundry was finished. He had thought of giving her something to brighten her day but he didn't know what to give her.
O'Connor looked at Prunella, "We really must have a discussion regarding protocol, Prunella. However...." The Captain pushed a few buttons on her chair, before continuing. "I have unlocked my quarters from here. Certainly you could have bothered my yeoman with this issue, though...."
"Which issue? The fact that you don't bring your laundry to me, or that you don't pick it up after you make your yeoman do it?" Prunella asked. "If you managed that, I wouldn't have to track you down...ma'am."
"I'll make certain my yeoman takes care of it and if not, said yeoman will be busted down to cleaning emission coils with a toothbrush. Will that suit you?"
"It might suit me, but I doubt it'll suit your yeoman. I just figured a grown woman like you would have learned to take better care of her clothes." Prunella shrugged and turned to go to the turbolift and back to the laundry. She didn't understand officers--or this officer--and she doubted she ever would.
O'Connor just watched as Prunella left the bridge. The woman was insufferable, but someone had to do the laundry....
Axel then realized he didn't have much time to get to the Shuttlebay,
Axel called out, "Good to see you, Miss Grunvold," as he headed for the Turbolift.
As Axel was walking into the Turbolift, Cyrus was walking out, bumping into him as they crossed paths. His eyes were buried into a PADD with reports from his home world. He was too focused on searching through the news and, unfortunately, the obituaries for ay familiar name. When he ran into the Lieutenant, he dropped his PADD, being caught off guard by the collision.
"Oh... I'm sorry, Lieutenant." He said as he knelt down to grab the PADD from the floor. "My mind was somewhere else."
"It's alright, I moved a bit too quickly. No harm done. Are you okay?" Axel pausing to check on Jericho. "Looks like no injuries, therefore I am off to be on my way."
Axel moving towards the turbo-lift.
"No damage." He joked before throwing his hand out towards the Lieutenant. "Wait." He shouted slightly before taking a step towards Axel. "I... uhh... never got the chance to thank you for coming down to get us. I know it was orders and all, but I still feel the need to give you my thanks." He said with a smile as he took a step forward, his gloved hand extended. "Where I come from, it's rare for someone to stick their neck out for you, so when it happens we tend to owe them a debt. At the very least, a favor."
Axel tilted his head slightly at an angle, "A favor? " he accepted Jericho's extended hand. "We can talk about that, when I get back. Sound good? And, you're welcome, I'm sure you'd do the same thing where I am concerned. Much like you'd do that for the rest of the crew. I was just glad I was able to help."
His grip was confident and firm.
Cyrus gripped Axel's hand equally, smiling in return, as he answered without hesitation. "I can assure you, Lieutenant, I would never hesitate to do the same. I know this may sound weird, but I look forward to proving it to you and the others some day." He let out a slight chuckle as he released Axel's hand slowly. "I won't keep you from whatever it was you were off to do, Lieutenant."
"Well I was being summoned to be a part of an away mission. Going down to the planet." Axel answered.
Amaya came up to both of them. "Just the man I was looking for." She smiled at Cyrus. "I'm taking a team down to the planet and I need a good security officer. Care to join us?"
"Well..." Cyrus said as he looked over to Amaya with a smirk. "Let me check my schedule. I might have an opening." He added as he looked at the PADD he was looking through earlier before immediately focusing back to her. "You're in luck. I just had a cancelation." A smile formed on his face, until it suddenly disappeared. "One thing though... we're gonna have to avoid blowing up another shuttle. Apparently, Starfleet doesn't like it when you do that. Who knew?"
"Yeah. They don't take being shot out of the sky by Romulans very well. But I have it on good authority there aren't any on the planet, so you're good. We're meeting in the shuttle bay in thirteen minutes."
Cyrus let out a quick laugh, nodding his head in agreement, before crossing his arms over his chest. "As far as we know." He said before smirking.
Amaya put a hand on Cyrus' arm. "And that is why I want you on the team. See you in a few minutes." She entered the turbolift to grab her go bag and to inform the doctor.
"And looks like you have been summoned as well. Time to grab our gear and meet up at the shuttle bay." Axel giving a nod.
"And so we shall." Cyrus replied with a smile before adding. "However, my go bag is not packed yet. Plus, I have some other things I have to arrange before leaving. So... I'll meet you there, Lieutenant. Hope you're up to par when it comes to your weapons training. Best to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it." He tapped Axel on the shoulder and walked away. "An important lesson that comes with an interesting story you may hear about some day."
Axel raised, an eyebrow at this. then gave a shrug. " I am up to date on my phaser skills." Watching as Cyrus left to get his bags.
Stallworth had a 'devil of a time' with only fifteen minutes; while was told late so even less time. She gave a quick look at the Away Team satchel, this is a first landing and thus it could be A-little more than just a jaunt.
Grabbing her favorite Tricorder she smooth her skirt and took to 'hoof'in it towards the shuttle Bay.
These sudden calls, no Officer conference and just 'Go check the planet' as orders. That is what kept her jumping and her life less of a boring analysis of plagues or plants or anything to fill the time between explorations.
It was time Seek out new life and all that jazz,
Stallworth was making her way quickly as she did not want to be left behind after a personal invitation and all.
